Currently, there is no approved drug specifically available for the therapeutic management of SARS-CoV-2 infection. In response to this unmet need, novel cinnamic acid-derived thiadiazole compounds have been synthesized and evaluated for antiviral activity
The compounds were synthesized using a novel microwave-assisted irradiation method, which is:
- Eco-friendly: Utilizes minimal solvent, catalyst, and significantly reduces reaction time.
- Efficient: Achieved a higher yield (72%) compared to conventional methods such as reflux (47%) and stirring (59%).
- Sustainable: Aligns with green chemistry principles by reducing waste and energy consumption.
